Zooming

Double click on the zoom icon to zoom to 100%
Double click on the icons on either side of the zoom slider to zoom to 100%. Single click to go to the minimum or maximum zoom.
Hold down the control key when using the zoom slider to snap to 100% increments.
Command-1 will zoom to 100%, command-0 will fit the image to the window.
Command-2 will zoom to 200%, command-5 will zoom to 50%
When zoomed in, hold down the space bar to temporarily change to the panning tool for navigating around your image.

Drawing

Use the '[' and ']' keys to change the size of your brush or eraser without switching to the tool palette.
Turn off anti-aliasing to get a crisp, yet blocky brush. Great for doing single pixel manipulation.

Shortcuts

Learn and use the keyboard shortcuts to change tools. This will save you a ton of time when creating your masterpiece.

Create Quick Custom Font Styles

In the folder "/Users/YourID/Library/Application Support/Acorn/Text Styles", you'll find some .rtf files with names that bear a striking resemblance to the menu items in the Edit->Text Style menu. You can place custom rtf files here, with the contents of the document set to a text style you like, and it'll show up in this menu. Then if you select one of these menu items while adding a new text object, it'll apply the text style to your text.
